Do touch screens really work well? Well, the answer to that question depends on what you are using it for. If you want one to replace a traditional computer, it will be a very poor choice. Just imagine typing out a long email by tapping on the screen, it will just take forever.

However, a touch screen can be very useful in certain circumstances where the computer needs to be used quickly for very specific purposes. This is why you will see many commercial establishments have them where there will be no keyboard or mouse. A prime example is ATMs where you will have to enter all the information on the screen by tapping on it. They are also very popular in some educational institutions where they will try to illustrate the use of a graphics software or animation software without much use of a keyboard. For purposes such as that, the touch monitor can be really useful. Some disabled people who find it hard to use a keyboard or mouse may also use a touch screen as the keys will be a lot more spaced out on the screen.

There are two types of touch screen monitors available. One is the add on version where a device will be added to the outside of a regular monitor. The device will have a sensor that will detect motion as you touch various parts of the screen. The device will then process the information and transmit it in the form of clicks or words that are typed in to the computer. The other type of touch screen is the fully built in version where the touch technology is built into the monitor.

As said earlier, a touch screen is a very good choice if you intend to use the computer very quickly for fairly repetitive tasks. It will however be a very frustrating piece of technology if you want to use your computer for regular use like browsing, email, homework etc.

Some people make the mistake of buying a touch screen just because it is cool or trendy to have one. While it may be trendy to have a touch phone, a monitor for your computer is not necessarily a good idea, unless you are going to use it for some of the purposes mentioned above.

There are a wide range of choices when it comes to computer screen technology on offer these days and one can easily find technology that is just as fascinating with other non touch screen monitors. Still, I have to admit these are pretty cool.
